Prof. Ir. Roel Pieper was born in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands, in 1956. He is the Professor of Electronic Commerce at the University of Twente, in the Departments of Information Technology and Technology & Management. He is also the founder and Managing Director of Favonius Ventures; an investment management company specialized in enterprise software and communication companies including wireless Internet software solutions.

Pieper graduated summa cum laude with a doctoral degree in mathematics and computer science from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Pieper spent the first ten years of his professional career at Software AG, rising to the level of Chief Technology Officer while working in Germany and the United States. He then went on to serve three years as President and CEO of AT&T’s Unix Systems Laboratories.

The following three years he was President and CEO of UB Networks, a subsidiary of Tandem Computers.   cont
